Dancing with the DeKalb Stars, partnered with Dunwoody Police Chief, Billy Grogan
In fall 2017 I partnered with the Office of the DeKalb County Solicitor-General in the inaugural “Dancing with the DeKalb Stars” fundraising event to benefit the Women’s Resource Center and the International Women’s House. This was during Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 6pm at the Porter Sanford III Performing Arts and Community Center.
Message about the event released by DeKalb County Solicitor-General Donna Coleman-Stribling: Each October is recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. As a law enforcement agency dedicated to creating a better, safer DeKalb County through education and prevention, we seek to engage as many residents as possible in efforts to raise awareness during this month.
Members of our county’s legal, public safety, business and civic communities were invited to participate as local “stars” for the distinction of Judge’s Favorite and Audience Favorite. individuals who are selected will partner with the dance instructor to perform a routine 3-5 minutes in length. The contestants will be judged on creativity, originality and overall execution.
Chief Grogan and I rehearsed for about 3 months to present a work titled, Office Duet, that was a fun spin on life in the office with the use of a table and office chairs. Funds from this performance were donated to the International Women’s House and the Women’s Resource Center would be generated through ticket sales and corporate sponsorship solicitation.
